The results showed us that 40% of respondents’ biggest need was in the realm of mental and emotional health. There was an overwhelming need for improving time management skills, stress management skills and dealing with anxiety with aims of finding peace of mind and calmness. Tools like mindfulness, or an aid from a wellness coach or mentor were needs people were looking to be fulfilled. Another need was in terms of physical health with people wanting to perform better but not feeling motivated enough. The last significant need was access to reliable, science-based information on how to keep healthy and safe in this “new normal” phase of life without being bombarded with an excess of information.
The most useful resource at respondents’ disposal was their YPO conferences and interactions. Zoom calls and webinars rated second and third was exercise in whichever form. Some respondents found online YouTube exercise videos and mindfulness group practices helpful. Furthermore, there was a majority of respondents that found that an overload of information available made it difficult to decipher through and find the useful information they were actually looking for.
The three most common emotions experienced during this time were frustration, anxiety and gratitude. The next most common three were excited, calmness and uncertainty. When asked about people’s driving force for mental fortitude, the most common response was physical activity, family and spirituality.
Relationships play a significant role in our health and thus was a crucial part of our survey. Research has linked lower rates of anxiety and depression and higher self-esteem to more trusting and
cooperative relationships. Throughout the lockdown almost 60% of respondents reported having good contact with colleagues and friends. Another 15% reported their relationships as being stronger than before. 11% reported no or little contact. In terms of the relationship with their spouse, 55% of respondents said their relationship was better than before. 27% said there was no change in the relationship whereas only a small percentage said the lockdown or pandemic had a negative impact on their spousal relationship

As part of the wellness track we wanted to gather information from YPO members on how they responded to the global Covid-19 Pandemic in terms of their mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. The aim was to understand the needs and struggles of people in order to provide them with resources and tools to assist and enable a more positive and successful transition through the challenges we are all faced with today.
